Description
Twelve gears sit in two rings around a center gear, all meshed with smooth herringbone teeth inside an outer frame. Hold the frame still and turn the center gear, and the planets circle the opposite way, which feels wrong until you watch it. Hold the center still and turn the frame instead, and the planets travel in the same direction, a little faster than the frame. It is a quiet desk fidget with a lot to look at, and the open hexagon in each gear lets you see through the whole mechanism. The set measures about 8.4 cm (3.3 in) across and 1.2 cm (0.5 in) thick, and it arrives ready to spin with nothing to put together. Choose two colors in the preview: one for the center gear and the outer six gears, one for the inner six gears and the frame, so every pair of meshing gears is a different color. Turquoise and magenta are shown here, and picking the same color twice gives a single-tone look. Add the Silk (shiny) finish for a glossy sheen. Fingers can be pinched between turning gears, so keep it away from small children. Made to order in the colors you choose.
